In practice, a single-phase inductor (or impedance component or reactor) is an inductive electromagnetic component consisting of a winding (coil or solenoid) made of conductive wire with either an air core or a magnetic metal plate core. The core may be either a cladded core or a toroidal core.
The main use of these inductive components is as a direct current filter (filter or choke inductance) and as a current limiter in single-phase and three-phase electric circuits (power factor correction capacitor banks, electronic power supply units, rectifiers, electricity distribution systems).
