A three-phase inductor (also known as an impedance component or reactor) is an inductive electromagnetic component consisting of three windings (coils or solenoids) made of conductive wire with a magnetic metal-plate three-column E-I core. The magnetic part of the core is designed so that the I is separate from the E and there is a calculated air gap between them that ensures the desired inductance value.
These inductive components are mainly used in industrial applications as an alternating current filter, a current limiter in electrical circuits (power factor correction capacitor banks, electronic power supplies, rectifier bridge circuits, electricity distribution systems, or industrial electrical systems), and as a inrush current limiter for three-phase electric motor start-up systems.
